Paul Dewar picks-up support in Toronto before leadership debate

January 18th, 2012
TORONTO - On the day of the first and only NDP leadership debate in Toronto, Paul Dewar announced the endorsement of two prominent Toronto politicians. Former Mayor of Toronto, John Sewell, and long-time NDP MPP for Trinity-Spadina and former Ontario Minister of Culture, Rosario Marchese, announced their support for Mr. Dewar.
“What’s impressive about Paul is his ability to bridge political differences, to get strong people with good ideas to work together and find creative solutions,” said former Mayor of Toronto John Sewell. “That attitude turns people on to the possibilities of the good government that Canada needs. He’ll be a great leader of the NDP and of the country”.
Over a long career, John Sewell has served as the Mayor of Toronto, a columnist with the Globe and Mail, NOW Magazine, and Eye Weekly, and as a professor at York University.
“Paul has the experience that counts – on the doorstep and on the national and international stage,” said MPP Rosario Marchese. “He knows the issues, he cares deeply about people, and he knows how to lead”.
Rosario Marchese has represented the downtown riding of Trinity-Spadina provincially since 1990. As a long-time member of the Ontario NDP caucus, Mr. Marchese has served as a Minister of Culture during the Bob Rae government and in various critic posts.
