December 22nd, 2011
OTTAWA – At its monthly general membership meeting held earlier this evening delegates to the Ottawa and District Labour Council (ODLC), one of the largest labour councils in the country, unanimously endorsed Paul Dewar in his bid for leader of the Federal New Democratic Party.
“Paul is a true working man and incredibly straight forward. What you see is what you get with Paul”, said Sean McKenny president of the Ottawa and District Labour Council adding that his contributions to working families in Ottawa have been enormous.
As a teacher and a member of the Ottawa Carleton Elementary Teachers’ Federation (OCETF) Paul was instrumental in ensuring his union joined the labour council. In addition, he actively participated in the activities of the ODLC while both a delegate representing OCETF and after being elected as NDP MP representing Ottawa-Centre.
“We fundamentally believe that Paul Dewar is the best candidate to lead Canada’s New Democrats,” said McKenny.
The Ottawa and District Labour Council (ODLC) has been the voice of working people in the Ottawa area since 1872. The ODLC currently represents 90 union locals with a combined membership of 50,000 working men and women and is the largest democratic and popular organization in the Ottawa.
